Now, all of you may be looking at this website and see that no way can my 3rd to 4th grade students finish all of this in 3 weeks if they work on it an hour a day, which was part of my plan.
As we all know, students all work at different levels and paces, so some of the information on other moons, comets, etc can be used for the students that excel in the classroom and need a chalenge or need something else to do.
Another thing I did when putting this project together was incorporating a little bit of everything.
1. By doing the drawings and coloring they are adding art into there projects; not all school districts keep things like art in there classroom, so this could be a fun way to incorporate this into there project
2. They would also be learning research skills. By using the websites with exact questions it will teach them how to find information, and then by adding a paper they can learn to take all that information they learned and put it into a paper.
3. The reason I decided to also include the presentation is it is never too early to have your students presenting, this is a way they can feel special about showing off all the information they learned and all of there hard work.
So feel free to use all of the ideas, or even just some of them. But this was a way for me to be able to incorporate many learning styles into one!
The grade I see this being most beneficial for is around 3rd or 4th grade, it incorporates a lot of information and material that they will need to choose how to decipher.
I am hoping that my students not only learn about the planets in our solar system, but it will also teach them about team worker, art, presentations, and compiling information.
For this project, and the resources I was able to find, they would need to use quite a bit of computer time, but you could always adapt those resources to books, making it far less time needed on computers.
On the previous slide I talked about what they needed to do to receive a good grade, to be honest, it shouldn't be that hard, of course for some students you may need to adapt your expectations, but those are the students that usually know that. If they follow the instructions of the grading they should be able to receive a decent grade with out any problems.
